Alanoud Alhaj holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biological Sciences and a Master of Science Degree in Genomics and Bioinformatics from The George Washington University in Washington DC, USA, a Master of Business Administration from the American University of Sharjah, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Business Administration from The British University in Dubai. Dr. Alhaj grew up in Sharjah, in the United Arab Emirates, where her early connections with science and nature emerged. Growing up in Sharjah, the Sharjah Science Museum and the Sharjah Natural History Museum were her playground area during her childhood years. Dr. Alhaj then moved to the United States where she completed her high school studies. Attending a private school in Northern Virginia in the heart of the Appalachian Blue Ridges Forests lead her to a stronger connection with science and nature.
During her undergraduate studies at the George Washington University she engaged in a number of research projects ranging from the micro-level of biology such testing for the antimicrobial activities of the plant Sausurea lappa to the larger-level of biology such as testing the age of the majestic maple trees in Rock Creek park in the heart of Washington DC. Dr. Alhaj then moved to her graduate studies at the George Washington University, during which she was able to obtain a position in the molecular biology laboratory at GWU Medical Center. She worked part of a group of researchers focused on protein-protein interactions in cancer cells, specifically studying the functional consequences of Cyclin D1 and BRCA1 interaction in cancer cells.
